Nintendo's dual-display, touchscreen DSi handheld games console gets given the once-over by Rory Reid in this video review. The DSi offers bigger screens and better audio quality than its predecessor, the DS Lite, as well an improved menu system, twin cameras and audio-playback capability. Unfortunately, Nintendo hasn't yet made the most of these new features, which means that, while the DSi is a great console, it's hard to recommend it to those who already own a Lite.

Microsoft's most ambitious Xbox 360 system update yet is an entirely new dashboard that bears little resemblance to the series of panels users currently use to navigate the gaming console. In this video, Dan Ackerman checks out 'The New Xbox Experience', a ground-up overhaul of the system's front-end interface also introduces several new features -- most notably an avatar system to represent users online.

Sony's PlayStation 3 may be the most expensive next-gen console, and its launch titles aren't very impressive, but its swanky design and bevy of features, including a Blu-ray drive, make it hard to resist

While it's neither a must-have upgrade for existing 360 owners nor as feature-packed as the PS3, the Xbox 360 Elite's combination of top-notch gaming and digital media features make it the current game console of choice

We wouldn't recommend the GP2X to casual gamers, but it is a fascinating handheld device that will appeal to a tech-savvy audience or anyone with an interest in homebrew games and applications

It lacks the graphical prowess and rich media features of the Xbox 360 and the PS3, but the Nintendo Wii's combination of motion-sensitive controllers and emphasis on gameplay make the ultra-affordable console compelling

While it's missing a couple of potentially important features at launch, the Xbox 360 delivers the power and performance of a high-end gaming PC, including impressive digital media and networking features

The Gizmondo is Britain's answer to the new generation of Japanese handheld consoles, but it's too little, too late. It's lacking games support, it's uncool and the potentially exciting GPS feature is still yet to be implemented in games. If you're into gadgets or collect gaming hardware then you might well enjoy the platform, but it feels distinctly old hat next to the shiny new PSP
