Like Flip Video’s other mini-camcorders, the Flip Video UltraHD gets simplicity right. Watch the video to see that this pocket-friendly shooter isn’t as small as its older sibling, the MinoHD, but it makes up for its larger size by offering improved 720p HD video quality. It adds a respectable feature set and 8GB of onboard memory to boot. It may not be the tiniest or sexiest mini-camcorder out there, but the UltraHD produces the best video quality we’ve seen on this low-cost series

In this video review, David Carnoy of CNET UK sister site CNET.com takes a look at Flip Video's MinoHD mini-camcorder. It's an ultra-simple device that shoots good-quality 720p video and makes uploading content to the Web extremely easy. While it has its flaws, such as its lack of an expandable-memory slot, it's still a great piece of kit and moves mini-camcorders a step forward.

In this video watch Rich Trenholm, our camera wiz kid, talk about the Sony TG3E, a super-compact solid-state HD camcorder. While often compared to budget camcorders because of its friendly price, the TG3E is in a different league. It offers a sharp LCD screen and 10x zoom, as well as a superb image stabilisation system. Unlike budget models that are cheap and plasticky, the Sony has a solid build that's meant to last. It is also incredibly user friendly, and yields amazing HD footage. Since it shares features with both low-budget and high-budget camcorders, we can only describe it as the best of both worlds.

In this video, Rich Trenholm gives us his take on Canon's newborn, the HG21. This high-class, high-definition camcorder is almost too amazing for its own good, offering so many features we doubt you'll make use of them all. It boasts a massive 120GB hard drive, which means you can record up to 11 hours of HG footage. It is also a hybrid, allowing you to transfer footage to SD and SDHC cards, allowing for further backup. Its assorted high-end features mean its pretty pricey, but we love it anyway

The Samsung VP-HMX20 is a hybrid camcorder, explains Rich Trenholm in this video review. That means it can record to removable SD and SDHC memory cards, and it has 8GB of on-board flash memory. Video is recorded at 1080p high definition resolution, and saved in H.264 format. You also get a 10x optical zoom, going up to 100x digital, and digital image stabilisation. Watch the video for close-ups of the camcorder's controls, menu and touchscreen, and to find out what Rich thinks about its design, features and performance.

The Kodak Zi6's attractive design and decent video quality adequately compensate for some usability drawbacks, as Rich Trenholm explains in this video review. Most notably, there was only 30MB of storage, so an optional memory card would not have gone amiss. The Zi6 records video in 1,280x720-pixel resolution at both 30 frames per second and 60fps -- 720p resolution -- which qualifies it as an HD camcorder, though that high def comes at a price, as Rich explains. To see this mini camcorder in action and find out more about its features, watch the video above.

Rich Trenholm takes us through some of the key differences between this tiny Flip Video Mino and its older brother, the Flip Video Ultra, in this video review. Besides being slimmer and sleeker, the Mino has rechargeable lithium-ion batteries and a USB port at the top instead of the side. The main difference, overall, is that it's aimed at a younger audience, which is evident by its mobile-phone-like design and size. With 60 minutes of footage, improved sound quality and movie software so that you can edit your footage, the Mino has a lot to work with. Watch our video to see this baby up close.

Watch this video review of the Panasonic HS100, the hybrid high definition camcorder with a 60GB hard drive. Rich Trenholm discusses the major features, such as the manual lens ring, and general highlights, including the excellent video quality. Also demonstrated here is how hidden away the HDMI socket is -- underneath the battery, which means it must be removed before you transfer or watch your footage.

While its video quality doesn't quite measure up to some of its competitors, there are enough pluses to make the Creative Vado Pocket Cam a worthy contender in the mini camcorder market

The Flip Video Ultra makes simplicity a virtue and Internet video-sharing a doddle. If you have any aspirations beyond the Web, a compact camera would be a better alternative for the price. Still, video is better than we expected -- just a shame about the sound
